The Spark of Creation
As uncertain as the future is, your life is nevertheless always moving toward something. Those who fear the uncertainty of the future need to understand that precisely because life is uncertain, there is no limit to the possibilities before you. If we're willing to put forth the effort, we're free to try to make life as wonderful as we dare to dream and believe it can be.

And yet, while we dream up our tomorrows, all we have is this moment. It's what we do today that builds the bridges we will cross into our future.

Sometimes we can get so caught up in the doing of everyday life, that we forget about who we are being and becoming. We can wander away from ourselves one small step at a time, without realizing it, until we forget much about who this person is that is looking out at the world through our eyes.

Yes, we can easily lose ourselves in the cares of the world, and oh how the conflicts and tragedies do cry for our attention. How persistent the media is in reminding us of the evils of this world. The stoic voices of the masters of despair needle us, needle us, needle us into seeing the world as a manic wasteland of hopelessness.

To hear the talking heads, life is never good.

Yet, it is easy to get back to our true selves. Turn off the news and take a walk along a lake shore and see the perfection of nature. Drink in the sunset as the sun kisses the sky good night. Look closely at a flower, or a tree . . . study it, become amazed at its simplicity and complexity. For all our technological advancements, we still can't make a flower from scratch, we have to start with a flower.

Find a dark spot on a clear night and contemplate the star-filled sky. Remember that for every star you see, there are about 20 million stars you can't see—just in our own Milky Way galaxy. Remember that it would take about 100,000 years to cross the Milky Way galaxy at the speed of light, and that light travels about six trillion miles in a year. What great immensity! And yet, the Milky Way is only one of billions and billions of galaxies.

Contrast that unfathomable immensity with the quark. An atom's nucleus is composed protons and neutrons, particles so small that 100 billion trillion of them would fit on the head of a pin, and yet, protons and neutrons are composed of even smaller particles called quarks, one of the basic building blocks of matter.

Have you ever marveled over the incomprehensible physics of the Universe? Do you ever wonder how it all works together with perfect precision, with every impossibly small quark and every unimaginably gargantuan galaxy filling its own role in perfect balance?

In all this vast expanse of time and space, has it ever occurred to you that life itself is a miracle? Do you realize that you are a miracle? Have you ever considered that no matter how much you've wondered about and experienced in life, that there will always be more to wonder about and experience? Endless are the opportunities to live in a deep reverance and awe of the natural world.

There is no denying the mystery and promise of life. No matter how far we roam from ourselves, there are always manifestations of the glory of life just waiting to lift us into higher realms of thought. As we contemplate the miraculous, worldly worries fall away as the fall leaves drop from the trees, and we rediscover our essential core. This core, this spark of creation within us that identifies with the creative force of the natural world, is always there to help us remember our true selves, but we often pile enough garbage on top of it that it has a hard time getting through to us.

Breathe in the beauty of life. It's a gift. It's a blessing that it is yours to experience, right now, and anytime you choose. There is no denying the unlimited possiblities that accompany each day, or that your possibilities are unlimited, too. Let the beauty of life, of nature, and of your mind carry you back to who you really are. It's all too easy to get caught up in the cares of the world, to forget who we really are, to feel lost within ourselves.

To be sure, there are real concerns we must face, but we needn't let our concerns determine who we are or how we think. Life is beautiful if you look for the beauty in life. You were meant to see the beauty, to marvel at creation, to feel nature's majesty deep in your bones. It brings us back to who we really are.

The more you feed your mind with good thoughts, the better your own thoughts become! As a member, you'd have access to dozens and dozens of Life's Little Goodies articles.
